One of the really amazing things about Seoul is the amazing amount of affordable custom tailoring one can get done while in the city, most people have some experience with made to fit suits or shirts, but have you ever had made to fit shoes done for yourself? If you’re like me, the idea of a nice pair of made to fit shoes constructed from good materials seemed like a pipe dream on a student budget. Needless to say I was extremely happy to accidentally come upon Romantic Move (coincidentally on my way to Mode Man, the subject of my first post)
Romantic Move specializes in custom hand-made leather shoes for men, the store front itself is small but every square inch is made use of to display beautiful shoes and boots in various styles and colors. Wingtips, dessert boots, and loafers are just a few of the many options available to the shopper. Once you choose your style, you’ll have many different leather samples to choose from. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the sole. You’ll have the choice of rubber or leather soles, and various colors in the leather. All shoes have a hand stitched welt so the quality is great, and the sole will be easily replaceable years down the road.
Here is where it gets really good, you can expect to pay between 140,000 and 200,000원 depending on style and sole type (leather soles cost an additional 40,000원). Turn around time after getting your feet measured is about 2 weeks. In my opinion, the leather and the soles are of good quality, but remember the price point is very reasonable for a made to fit shoe, so don’t expect leather comparable to shoes from a higher price point like Alden, Bally, or other more expensive Italian leather shoes. Still, the shoes are beautiful and seemed to age well (judging by the staff members who said his were 3 years old) and in my opinion the choice and service you are getting are well worth the price. If you live in Seoul and are in the market for a pair of well made, nice looking shoes, Romantic Move should definitely be on your list of places to check out.
